The Wedding
On the wedding day, I try to be as unobtrusive as possible, but definitely step in and help and guide if necessary. I truly wish to make every couple feel special and seen, and make their wedding day as stress free and fun as I possibly can. I am organized and we plan ahead to avoid any hiccups. I encourage my brides to use Pinterest to communicate with me their visual aesthetic and we sometimes even plan shots we want to produce on the special day! I try not to force pose my couples too much, I COMPOSE them, I place them in beautiful light, with a pretty background and try to inspire them to be themselves with each other and capture those sweet authentic moments of familiarity between them. One of my specialties is working with people who don’t like to be photographed, many a groom has walked out of a session with me saying, “that wasn’t that bad, it was actually pretty fun!” Expect a lot of laughter, kissing, snuggling and all the things that make your relationship shine. These make the best photos! The moments between the posing, those are the priceless pieces that I love to hand back to you. I love spending people’s most memorable and special day with them, it’s an honor and I treat it as such.
Proposal
Hiding in the bushes or vineyard with my camera, trying to blend in, trying to look like a guest with all my professional camera gear, capturing that surprise moment perfectly! Capturing the surprise proposal is a skill in its own right, I have to think quickly, manage shifting lights, and be able to change and adjust on the spot because often the proposer is so nervous that they forget everything that was planned and just go for it!
Engagement
The engagement session is another tool that builds rapport and trust, it’s capturing the couple as they are, pre wedding day, it’s the time to be lighthearted and fun. Taking beautiful photos without the time and family constraints of the wedding day. The engagement session renders my clients gorgeous images they can use on their wedding day, save the date, wedding website and more. Engagement photo sessions serve a great purpose for me too, it makes my couple trust me! Like any relationship, with trust, anything can be accomplished! With the trust I build through the engagement session, an ease, playful love and lightness is reflected in my wedding photos.
Frequently Asked Questions
What training have you had in photography?
I started shooting in high school, I took classes all through college and even had my own dark room. When photography switched from analogue to digital, I re educated myself on the digital medium in 2 years of photography classes at the local junior college while apprenticing with an award winning wedding Photographer. Wedding photography is a unique art form, and best learned on the job. I apprenticed for 2 years before I ever shot a wedding alone. Recently, I re educated myself with online courses, and moved from DSLR to mirrorless systems. I always look at current trends and online magazines, I think it’s vital to stay current and fresh.
